Carisbrooke Castle

REF NR: 3549

Carisbrooke Castle is steeped in history and in that time remained steadfast. You may find there is more going on within its stone walls and Keep than you bargained for.  For it has its fair share of ghosts.

One such famous ghost can be found in the popular well-house where donkeys work the rustic old wooden treadwheel. The ghost has the face of a long-dead girl, Elizabeth Ruffin, who drowned in the160ft deep well. Another ghostly figure can be seen wearing a long cloak and walking its four lap dogs through the castle grounds.

Other sightings include a Victorian lady in grey and the ghost of a young man wearing brown jerkin and trousers can be seen near the moat.
