Brigantine Noordster

REF NR: 1806

Dutch two masted vessel, 183 tons register, bound from Maracaybo, Central America, founded off Brook Point, circa 1895. The main link shows the names of the people listed as mentioned in the County Press report of the 30th March 1895.

The Brook lifeboat was launched and 7 souls were saved from the brigantine but her cargo of box-wood and divi-divi (the pods of the Cœsalpinia coriaria, a member of the family of trees growing in tropical America and yielding sapan, brayil and other red woods used for dyes) were lost to the deep.

The image shows the plaque erected to the crew of the Brook lifeboat who braved the rough seas to rescue many a soul including those of the brigantine Noordster.
