History Air Crashes of WWII

Allied - Hurricane V6776

REF NR: 1923

28th September 1940 saw a big dogfight over the south-east Wight and Channel areas. Several Bf109s tangled with two flights of Hurricanes from 238 and 213 Squadrons. Sgt. Bann had a battle on his hands and eventually had to bail out after severe damage to the aircraft had occurred. The sad thing here is that his chute did not open. His body was eventually found at Centurion's Copse on Brading Marshes. The aircraft crashed on the north side of Culver Down into the flint which being so hard, broke the aircraft into hundreds of pieces.
