History Air Crashes of WWII

Allied - Hurricane P2770

REF NR: 1927

Pilot Officer J Ashton had a lucky escape from his aircraft, after crashing at Ashey into a disused chalk pit. There seems to be confusion over what this aircraft's indent number actually was. Gilliam tries to redress this error in his book "Wight Air Wrecks" with the following statement.

"Previous works have listed this machine as P2683; however, P2683 is recorded as being lost in France in May 1940. This error may well have risen through the loss on the same day of R2683."
