The Station Road overbridge’s arch has been filled in, and a large ramp has been constructed so that cyclists and pedestrians may access the trackbed below. The stationmaster’s home is still standing and is currently in private occupation, but all other remnants of the station have been removed. The original concrete station sign was found and restored; it now proudly displays itself on a new base.
The pier went all the way under the apex of the Station Road viaduct. An neighbouring arch houses the reception desk and waiting area. In 1910, the platform was lengthened to accommodate longer trains, and in 1907, the stationmaster’s home was constructed alongside the road. The below image clearly depicts the ‘join’.
The station was forced to close early in 1953 due to tectonic activity on the bank.
