1570 Vecta Wyght Map

This is an early map of the island – forming part of the Burghley Atlas (c1570). Lord William Cecil Burghley was Elizabeth I’s secretary of state.

It’s believed that the map was produced by John Rudd, who had become deeply interested in cartography and was subsequently involved in the mapping of England ‘plan’ from the 1550s to 1561.
