Constructed in the year 1861, the windmill persisted in its location until the year 1913, at which point the miller, Mr. Sweetman, made the determination that its use was no longer viable due to safety concerns. Consequently, the sails and the hat were detached. The two remaining floors were utilised until the mid-1960s before to their demolition. During World War II, the mill was repurposed as an observation position for the Home Guard, owing to its advantageous vantage location overlooking Ryde valley and the Solent.
