Smallbrook Halt

The Havenstreet Steam Railway and the Island’s electric trains meet here, close to Smallbrook Junction. This associated images wer taken at the site of a former signal box.

Here the train line splits in two, one branch continuing on to Ventnor (now only going as far as Wootton) and the other branch continuing on to Newport and Cowes (now only going as far as Wootton).

This section of track going to Ryde was split into two single tracks and the signal box was turned off during the winter when there was less activity on the line. The Ryde-bound trains frequently contested the race to the signal control centre. The line would function as a double track, as it does now, during the warmer summer months.
