From 1929 until 1934, Apse Manor Farm’s grass field was mostly utilised by the Isle of Wight Flying Club (founded in 1930). However, it was also used by Wight Aviation Ltd (later known as Portsmouth Southsea and Isle of Wight Aviation Ltd or PSIOWA), which arrived from Maylands Aerodrome in Romford on May 1, 1930. PSIOWA used a Westland Wessex to provide services from Shanklin to Portsmouth in 1932. The single price was 15 shillings, and the return fare was £1-7-6d.
