Ref Number: 0093
The Ryde St Johns road railway station is one of three in the Isle of Wight town of Ryde. Despite its current location 2 km (1.25 mi) south of Ryde Pier Station, the island’s northernmost terminus, Ryde Railway Station was the island’s most northerly train terminal when it initially opened in 1864 and was hence given the name ryde railway station.
Until 1880, travellers had to take a tram from Ryde St. Johns, from where they could then walk to Ryde Pier Head; however, the railway was eventually extended from Ryde St. Johns to Ryde Pier Head.
