Ryde St. John’s Road, on each side of the station, became the epicentre for locomotive service and repair when the Isle of Wight’s railroads united to establish the Southern Railway.
The C.M.E. sidings were located on the east side of the station, and they included a three-road shed and four additional sidings; the first and fourth of these sidings went into a smaller shed located next to the main shed.
