Ref Number: 0080
The primary station building and stationmaster’s residence are still there, albeit with various updates. Currently, it serves as someone’s home. The platform is also still there, although it is hidden by the tall fence that surrounds the whole site. The original plan called for the station to open in May of 1872, but a preliminary examination turned up several problems.
Although opening was first denied, service to Sandown began on May 28th, 1872. The contractor provided this service, but it ended on July 27th, 1872. On February 1, 1875, the official start of service was announced.Towards the west of the station, you’ll find the goods yard. It only has one siding.
