Crashed at Bridgecourt farm 12.8.40, The aircraft was being piloted by Kommodore Oberst Dr Fisser of KG 51
Ref Number: 00230
The crash took place on August 12th, 1940 at the Bridgecourt Farm. The plane was being flown by Kommodore Oberst Dr. Fisser of KG 51 (head quarters flight), who is infamously known for being the highest senior German pilot to be involved in a crash on the island. They were conducting an assault on Ventnor Home Chain Radar installations; however, immediately after the assault, hurricanes and spitfires from 213 and Pilot Officers W. Beaumont, R.M. Hogg, Flight Lieutenant F.M. Thomas and Sergeant E.E. Shepperd of 152 Squadron began harassing them.
The Junkers received very little cover from the Bf110s that were providing assistance, and their height was a significant drawback. They were attacked a few minutes later, at 12:25, and brought down close to Godshill Park, which is located to the south of Bridgecourt farm.
During the crash landing, the aircraft caught fire, and Dr. Fisser passed away as a result of the injuries he sustained. Lt F. Schad and Oberlt W. Luderitz were captured and taken as prisoners of war and Sonderfuhrer A. Nothelfer was also captured but badly burned. All of the remaining pilots survived being prisoners of war.
