Ref Number: 00225
Crashing very near Farringford House 8th May 1941. Obfw H. Laube was the only survivor.
Following a night mission over Liverpool and the midlands, a Beaufighter from 600 Squadron tracked a Heinkel down and shot it up badly enough that it crashed not far from Farringford House, which had formerly served as Lord Tennyson’s home.
The aeroplane itself was completely obliterated, which resulted in the formation of a sizable crater. Only Obfw H. Laube, the only member of the crew to bail and survive, was captured and kept as a prisoner for the duration of the war. The other three crew members all perished in the accident or shortly before hand in the stricken plane.
