The T Barber’s plate of Fernhill House appeared his publciation of 1824 called ‘Picturesque Illistrations of the Isle of Wight omprising views of every object of interest on the island’. All engraved from original drawings a wonderful scene with the house in the background and children playing and farmhands working.
The Right Hon. Thomas Orde-Powlett, who in 1797 was named Lord Bolton and who served as Governor of the Isle of Wight from 1791 and 1807, commissioned the construction of the home around the tail end of the 18th century. Sadly the house was destroyed by fire in June 1938.
