Faringford 1878

The plate displays Alfred Lord Tennyson’s historic home, Faringford House. According to the publication ‘The Atlatic Islands,’ from which this plate was taken, Tennyson had abandoned the residence as a peaceful setting by this time, because it had been compromised by the addition of the Newport to Freshwater railway, which opened up the area and ruined the “sea-side seclusion.”
