The depicted engraving from 1794 showcases Cowes Castle (West), which was constructed by Henry VIII as a defensive structure for safeguarding the Solent and Cowes roads shipyards during that era. This particular engraving can be located in Charles Tomkins’ renowned publication of 1796, titled “This Tour to the Isle of Wight Illustrated with Views.” The publication is dedicated to Sir John Barrington, Bart., who served as the member of Parliament for the Borough of Newtown, Isle of Wight.
