Ref Number: 0073
The station was situated between the two villages of Calbourne and Shalfleet.
Ref Number: 0073
The station is located in close proximity to both Calbourne and Shalfleet, which are two settlements that are next to one another. When the Southern Railway took over the line, the Newport Station was forced to close, which resulted in the relocation of the ticket office from Newport to Calbourne. The ticket office had previously been constructed out of wood and corrugated iron.
The station has a single line side that is 160 feet long. This siding serves a small goods yard that is situated behind the platform. Although the station is now officially named as Calbourne & Shalfleet, the signage at the station indicate that it was once referred to as just Calbourne.
The Calbourne viaduct as shown on the 1909 map demonstrates the steel works in place over the nearby ravine.
