On January 3, 1918, the Norwegian steamer Asborg, which had a total tonnage of 2,750, was sunk by a torpedo fired by the German submarine UC-75. The ship had been constructed in 1896 by Short Brothers of Sutherland. She is in a badly damaged condition and is located 20 metres from the St. Catherine’s lighthouse, although most of her remains may still be seen.
