Allied – P51 Mustang FD508

This aircraft, which belonged to 63 Squadron and was stationed in Middle Wallop, made an effort to make a safe landing in Somerton Cowes. Flight Officer J.S.B. Wright, who suffered an injury during the landing, was the pilot of this aircraft. At that very moment, the field was undergoing expansion, and a contractor’s plant had been carelessly dispersed over the runway while they were working. After colliding with an earth mover, the Mustang rolled over and became a turtle. The workmen raced to help the pilot, and one of them took him away so that he could get medical attention.
