A significant dogfight took place over the south-east Wight and Channel regions on September 28th, 1940. Hurricanes from 238 and 213 Squadrons were involved in a dogfight with several Bf109s that were in the area. Sgt. Bann found himself in the middle of a fight, and in the end, he was forced to eject from the aircraft because it had sustained significant damage.
The unfortunate part about this situation is that his chute did not open. at the end, his corpse was discovered at Centurion’s Copse, which is located on Brading Marshes. The plane went down on the northern slope of Culver Down, slamming onto the flint, which, due to its extreme hardness, shattered the plane into hundreds of pieces.
