Allied – Hurricane P2770

After a false landing his aircraft at Ashey into an abandoned chalk ditch, Pilot Officer J Ashton had a fortunate escape. There appears to be confusion regarding the actual serial number of this aircraft. Gilliam attempts to rectify this error in his book “Wight Air Wrecks” with the following statement.

“Previous works have listed this machine as P2683; however, P2683 is recorded as being lost in France in May 1940. This error may well have risen through the loss on the same day of R2683.”
