Although there is not a significant amount of documentation on Dugdale’s personal life, his work as an antiquarian publisher of topographical and cartographic works is regularly found. Early to middle of the nineteenth century was definitely blessed with a lot of great mapmakers and engravers, as well as some very clever publishers, who recognised the markets and the requirements of the map and book-buying public of the time. This was a time when the United States was the dominant world power.
