Motherbank Quarantine Zone

For many years from the 1780's onward, the Motherbank sandbank in the Spithead channel off the island was used as the primary quarantine zone for the Island, Portsmouth and Southampton. Many ships anchored here for various lengths of time while waiting out their quarantine time.
