Cliff End Battery

REF NR: 11

Originally the emplacement was going to house a twenty gun barbette battery; however, the ground suffered from too much sustenance and proved unsuitable.  So it was not until 1877 were a third choice of 10 powerful 12.5inch guns fitted as the second choice of 9” guns had already been superseded. Over the following years many additional works including a tunnel to Fort Albert far below were instigated along with searchlight experiments and various gun augmentation .

Site now mainly demolished yes still visible amoung the holiday home bungalows.
