History Air Crashes of WWII

Allied - Typhoon 1B DN303

REF NR: 1942

1. A Tangmere based Hawker Typhoon 1B from 486 squadron was forced down on the 25th May on Brading Marshes, due to mechanical problems. It was being flown by Flt. Sgt. D Bennett, who was unhurt and managed to sort himself out  and wander over to the nearby St Helens Train Station to phone the airfield and report that he would be late for tea.
