Priory Bay Hotel

REF NR: 523

Located between the popular sailing villages of Seaview and Bembridge, the Priory Bay Hotel is an elegant Virginia creeper clad country retreat that has been built upon by medieval monks, Tudor farmers and Georgian gentry - a timeless English beauty. Within the 70-acre estate there stands a medley of beautifully restored and stylishly decorated buildings, and leisure facilities. The hotel has two award-winning restaurants: The Island Room and The Priory Oyster Seafood Bar & Grill. The Regency, muralled Island Room showcases classic gourmet cuisine with a contemporary twist: offering superb fine dining with an a la carte menu and 6-course tasting menu. The Priory Oyster Seafood Bar & Grill specializes in fresh seafood in relaxed, yet stylish, surroundings with French windows which open onto a terrace adorned with Mediterranean orange, lemon and fig trees.

A 14th century portal provides an imposing entrance to the Hotel. Over a thousand years of history have created a unique atmosphere and architectural legacy at the Priory Bay Hotel. As a result, each of the bedrooms has its own very distinctive character and all are superbly furnished and appointed. The hotel has tried to retain as many original features as possible. Our Principal rooms are beautifully decorated in unique styles.  All have unique original features, stylish bathrooms and exquisite views over our extensive grounds. All our Standard rooms are individually decorated with king size beds, comfortable linen, and extra beds or cots can be put in most rooms. We have two Family rooms in the main building with double beds and a separate sleeping area or twin bedroom for the children.  If these are booked we can accommodate families in two adjacent rooms in their own private corridor.  Families can also use our cottages.

The modern cottages built in the 1980’s are suitable for families with children and/or dogs.  They are essentially self-catering units (except cottages 32, 33, 37 and 38) but many families prefer to use the facilities of the hotel and enjoy the extra space. The cottages have spectacular views over the grounds and golf course to the sea and are located approximately 100 yards from the hotel across the sunken courtyard. Each cottage offer a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, lounge and a bathroom and some of the cottages have a small kitchen.

Within the Priory Estate we have two large self catering houses available. Our 18th Century, 5 Star Rated, light, spacious and contemporary five bedroom Coach House is ideal for families or larger groups of up to 10 guests. The four bedroom Cluniac Cottage is a 4 Star Rated and also ideal for families or groups of up to 9 guests with its own private garden and parking. Although Self Catering, you are still welcome to make use of the many facilities at Priory Bay, including the tennis course, golf course, swimming pool, beach and restaurants, providing you with everything you need for the perfect escape.

Larger families and groups who want additional space for their break can also enjoy our tithe barns. It is a luxury accommodation for up to 6 people with sleeping accommodation of a double bedroom ensuite a smaller double bedroom, a small twin room and an additional bathroom. Each has a large sitting room with sofas, tables and chairs with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the gardens to the sea.

The amazing diversity of grounds at Priory Bay are a magical haven for wildlife attracting rare birds of prey, owls, red squirrels, and colourful dragonflies. Woodlands stretch down to the beach, making the estate a unique habitat for both land and sea birds all year round. The lawns and terraced gardens were designed by the famous doyenne of landscape design, Gertrude Jekyll, and Queen Victoria is reputed to have sat beneath the magnificent magnolias growing on the south wall of the hotel.

Pick your way down a tree-lined path through the woods and you will find the Hotel’s secluded private beach that lines the gloriously unspoilt coastline at Priory Bay. With woods protecting the Bay from the prevailing south westerly wind, Priory Bay is a cosy, peaceful refuge from which to take a gentle stroll and enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery and fresh air.

The Priory Bay Hotel has a host of facilities to make your stay most memorable. For those who want a little physical activity there are tiennis courts, the challenging six-hole golf course, an outdoor swimming pool and a plethora of stunning coastal walks. The Isle of Wight is also a world-renowned centre for watersports, boating and sailing, and at Priory Bay we offer guests the fantastic opportunity to charter a magnificient two-masted yacht: either for a little relaxing sightseeing by sea (with Champagne and picnic hamper) or for the more active – some fantastic sailing with a crew. For those needing rest and relaxation we have a selection of in-room holistic beauty therapies and massage treatments, or you can simply sit back and enjoy Priory Bay’s perfect fusion of coast and countryside. Priory Bay is the perfect tranquil retreat but also close to a host of key attractions and events on the Island which you can all find on Island Eye.
