John Nash , was responsible for many of the buildings of the regency period having the patronage of George IV he designed such masterpieces as Buckingham Palace, The Royal Pavilion Brighton and much more. Locally he designed and build East Cowes Castle and several other buildings in Newport such as the Guildhall and Literary Exchange.

 

He died at his East Cowes home on 13th May 1835 and was buried in a stone sarcophagus at St James Churchyard East Cowes.
