1. A very early map of the Island - The Burghley Atlas dated circa 1570 and is part of the Atlas that was owned by William Cecil Lord Burghley , who was Elizabeth 1st Secretary of State. It is thought that the map was produced by John Rudd who had developed an interest in cartography and was involved in the mapping of England "plan" from the 1550's to 1561.
