History Air Crashes of WWII

Allied - Tiger Moth II

REF NR: 1957

Somerton airfield saw another air accident towards the end of 1944 when a Tiger Moth had a flying accident on take off. The Tiger Moth from 41 Squadron based at Lympne in Kent was attempting take off in foul conditions, resulting in the two man crew flipping the aircraft on its back.

Luckily nobody was hurt and it's not actually mentioned in any crash report of the day, although a report of a Tiger Moth II registration N9204 was recorded under very similar conditions on the 24th January 1944. As a result, there is some confusion as to when this accident actually happened.
