History Air Crashes of WWII

Allied - Spitfire Mk V AD504

REF NR: 1936

This aircraft crash landed near Ventnor on the St Lawrence road near a property called Belvedere. The Pilot Flt. Lt. D W Wainwright unfortunately sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Royal National Hospital at St Lawrence. He died of his wounds shortly afterwards.

 

The aircraft was one of the " Presentation" planes, bought and paid for by the donations of Nottinghamshire Districts Miners and was called "Notts Miner".
