History Air Crashes of WWII

Allied - P51 Mustang FD508

REF NR: 1945

This aircraft from 63 Squadron based at Middle Wallop attempted an emergency landing at Somerton Cowes. Flown by Flt. Off. J.S.B. Wright, who was injured during the landing. As luck would have it, the field was being extended at that time and a contractor plant was strewn across the runway working. The Mustang collided with an earth mover and turned turtle. The workers rushed to the aid of the pilot and carried him off to get medical assistance.
