Isle of Wight History

Every bit of land and each nation has its history. History is our past. The past is an indicator on the way to move forward into the present time so as to achieve a prosperous future. During its rich history the Isle of Wight has experienced Roman Empire invasions, suffered from the Viking onslaughts, invaded by the French and been bombed during the Second World War, but this beautiful island still has many historical places as well as historical attractions to offer to the tourists. For example, Osborne House was famous since Victorian times. Queen Victoria made it as her summer residence.
